Protect Your Business Vehicles with Bivins
Commercial Auto Insurance?
If you own commercial vehicles, it’s vital to have the right coverage. Do not try and mix your personal insurance with commercial insurance, you could be in violation of the law.
Commercial auto insurance can give you the protection you need. If your business vehicle is involved in an accident, liability insurance can cover losses. A commercial auto policy can help you get your vehicle repaired or replaced quickly, so you can get back to business. The right policy can also cover your vehicles for situations such as theft, vandalism, or damage from fire and natural disasters.

Business Auto Policy Coverages
- Liability Coverage:
- The minimum liability limits for business vehicles in California are (as of recent updates) approximately:
- $30,000 bodily injury per person,
- $60,000 bodily injury per accident for all persons,
- $15,000 property damage.
- Of Note: Vehicles with a DOT number need to carry much higher coverage, often $500,000 to $1,000,000. We can provide options.
- Physical Damage Coverage
- Collision – Pays for damage to your business vehicle resulting from a collision regardless of fault
- Comprehensive – Pays for non-collision damage to your business vehicle — e.g., theft, vandalism, fire, natural disasters
- Other Coverages
- Medical Payments – Pays for medical costs of driver/passengers in the business vehicle, regardless of fault. Some policies offer this.
- Hired and Non-Owned Auto Liability (HNOA): Covers liability exposure when your business uses vehicles that it does not own (e.g., rented vehicles, employee personal cars used for business tasks) for business operations.
- Loading & Unloading coverage, Bobtail coverage, Rental reimbursement / Towing & labor: For businesses with trucks, trailers or special uses, there may be additional endorsements to cover loading/unloading of cargo, when a tractor is used without trailer (bobtail), or when your business vehicle is disabled and you need a rental.
What a policy typically does not cover / exclusions. It is important to be aware of common exclusions:

- Intentional damage or bodily injury caused by the insured or purposely permitted. (may be covered under CGL or Other policies)
- Employee injuries when the employee is “on the job” may instead fall under workers’ compensation rather than auto liability. (The auto policy may exclude coverage if the injury is within scope of WC.)
- Some physical damage policies may exclude wear & tear, mechanical breakdown (these would be maintenance issues rather than insured causes).
